«This is a unique, unparalleled event, the first of its kind,» said Juan José Miquilena, director of the school, when he presented a plaque of recognition to the deputy executive director of the DA, Luis Cabrera Mercedes, who was represented by Víctor Pichardo.

The ceremony and presentation of certificates took place during flight 1451 of the Airbus A321, with capacity for 220 passengers of the Dominican airline Skycana, which took off at 3:15 in the afternoon from terminal B of the International Airport of the Americas (AILA) Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez, in a trip without destination that lasted approximately one hour.

Authorities from the aeronautical and airport sector of Las Americas International Airport participated in the first graduation of technicians inside an airplane in flight, an event organized by the Inter Aviation Services Aviation School (IASCA) based in the Dominican Republic, which chose the director of the Airport Department (DA), Víctor Pichardo, as its godfather of honor.

Inter Aviation Services (IASCA), began operations in 2008 and achieved its first certification before the Venezuelan authorities in 2013, while since 2017, it has been certified by the Dominican authorities to graduate Cabin Crew Members, Flight Dispatchers and Professional Airline Agents.

«On behalf of the executive director of the Airport Department, Victor Pichardo, I would like to express my congratulations for having made the decision to venture into the airport sector, which is the backbone for the recovery of tourism, the engine of our country’s economy,» Cabrera said.

The graduates were trained as Cabin Crew Members and Professional Airline Agents, respectively, and included several graduating classes that, due to the effect of the pandemic, had not received their certificates.

The authorities of the aeronautical and airport sector were represented at the event by Eliana Gómez B., in charge of facilitation of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), on behalf of the director of that institution José Marte Pianiti.

Also, Clara Fernández, director of the Higher Academy of Aeronautical Sciences (ASCA) of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC); FARD Colonel Dionisio de la Rosa, deputy director of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC), as well as Frank Díaz, president and CEO of Skycana airline.

Meanwhile, instructors Henry Féliz, Juan Araujo, Perla Rodríguez and Juan Alberto Castillo were present for the Inter Aviation Services school.
